Seriously in trouble?

I'd say one thing at a time. Use public transport. Forget the car and the crazy expenses it entails. Try to look at temp agency work: they advertise in most dailies and you can get work that way sometimes for days, weeks and months contracts. Don't think "career", think survival. And pay the rent.
