Question on wood stove CHIMNEY?

I am new to burning wood, I have noticed on my outside chimney I have creosote dripping down the chimney where the chimney male and female ends meet. Also I notice that creosote spits out of the top a little because i was standing next to the chimney and creosote was hitting me in the head. Do you think the chimney connections are wrong. The crimped end is male end correct and the larger end female. If so I currently have the wider ends facing down and the smaller ends facing up? Any other input, thanks?
