Now that the BCS National Championship game has invalidated the other BCS bowl games, why not have a playoff?

The fear was that a playoff system would make the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl more meaningless. Well now in their infinite intelligence, the powers that be created the BCS National Title game, which does exactly what they feared - make those other games meaningless. So why not just have what 90% of America wants - a playoff system? Works fine in Division II (err I mean BCS subdivision)
